The Return of the Prodigal!
It's been many years since Laura has attended church and although she sat quietly throughout and didn't participate, she afterwards remarked to another friend that she will be coming again - because she knows she needs to!
God is at work in this house. Laura still has a long way to come, but it's good to see she is beginning to recognise the need for God in her life.
Often we give up on our kids, our friends, or even our spouses and parents. But God is at work. This morning I was reminded that God knows my burdens. He knows the people I have a burden for and that he has a burden for them to. I need to hand them over to God and trust him.
Part of tonight's message was that God has a plan for our lives, we need to be patient and let him see it through! Often we look at the situation and try to hurry things up. If we try to take control, to fulfil God's plan before his time, then things are likely to go wrong. In God's time, things work!
Fully Rely On God! That's what we need to do in every aspect of our life! That's what we need to do with all the people we have a burden for! Rely on God to see them through.

Why?
Through everything that happens to us, God wants us to love him. He will see us through anything and everything that life throws at us. At this time, I know my friends have turned to him for everything they need.
I'm sure most of us are feeling useless at this time, last night I told them that all I could do was pray for them. It made prayer sound such a small thing! Yet prayer is the most powerful and wonderful tool that God has given to us! I don't need to know the details, God knows them! I just need to support my friends, to show my love for them through prayer.

When God Speaks
In the morning, I'd shared about preparing my mind for action. At church a couple of hours later, there was an amazing anointing of God's Holy Spirit amongst the people. We were being to called to not only BE anointed in the Holy Spirit to also to be an anointing to others. To be active for God! In the evening we went over to Coventry to a different church and the call was once again to serve, to be active for God.
In some ways there were 3 messages given, but in others I really felt a sense of God calling me to action. To live the life he has chosen, to be a visible example of God's love. I'm not sure how God wants me to serve him, I only know that by preparing my mind each morning, by living in his kingdom, by seeking him in everything I do, I will learn to hear his voice. If I truly want to serve my Saviour King I will obey his will. For the present, I need to just be the person he created me to be. As I learn to live my life in obedience to him, by honouring him in everything I do, then he will begin to show me what he wants me to do.
One thing I do know for sure. I love God more than anything else. His love is the most precious thing I have and I don't want to allow anything in my life to seperate me from the joy of living in his kingdom. I want to serve my King. I need to listen to his voice, to be prepared and to obey.

Prepare Your Mind!
Last night I was watching The Bourne Supremecy with my son. He'd seen the first film but I hadn't, so I was a bit lost about some of what was happening. The lead man was acting on instinct. He had been well trained, his mind had been prepared to succeed in the tasks set before him. Sadly, (and I don't know how as it was in the first film) he was suffering from limited amnesia and there was a lot in his past which he was incapable of remembering. This meant that although his mind was prepared, he was often mixed up and confused. He didn't know what or why he was reacting the way he was.
Peter calls on us to prepare our minds. We are still living on earth and unless our minds are fully prepared, we are more likely to react in an earthly way instead of a godly way. We need to keep our minds fixed on the things of heaven. We serve a holy God and we cannot expect to come into his presence unless we ourselves are holy.
Peter calls us to be holy in all we do. Unless we prepare our minds for action by reading God's word, by chatting to him, talking to him, and above all, by listening to him, we will not be prepared for the tasks he sets for us.
Time for a bit of honesty? The past couple of days I've slotted in a quick read of my bible at the end of the day when my eyes are tired. Friday I didn't even make that much time! The days when I get up and the first thing I read is God's word, those are the days I know I am prepared for my day ahead. I've often in the past done my quiet time at the end of the day, but I'm finding I am so much more prepared for life when I read in the morning.
Think about it... how often does a general plan his attack at the end of the battle?
Our times with God are our times of preparation! We need to prepare our minds in order than we can face each day. We need to spend time with God in the morning, not in the evening. Don't get me wrong, added time in the evening is excellent. We must get our minds prepared in the morning. Our final thoughts of the day can be a time of reflection and praise but our early morning time is a time to focus and prepare. Just like Jesus did every morning.

A Disappointing Expectation Realised
Next week I begin two more courses. The start of new courses is usually an exciting time. yesterday my course material arrived for the courses but sadly the only difference on one of the courses is that instead of studying algebra, I'll be studying goemetry. I'm greatly disappointed as I know I'm going to have to work harder about being positive about the course, than on the course content.
The course I attended in the summer provided times of reflection on our learning the previous day. One of the things we openly talked about was how the course was giving us, often painful, reminders of what it is like to be a learner.
Looking at my disappointment for the coming months, in a way it must be how many of my pupils feel when I say we're about to study an area of maths they find difficult. Or when I keep badgering them to set work out in a particular way and they want to just jump straight in with an answer.
Having met the authors of these courses in the summer course, I hold them in great respect as people who are not only knowledgeable, but from observing them, also great classroom practitioners. I need to change the way I view the coming months. There will have been great discussion amongst them about not only the course content but also the way it is presented and the best way to enable us as learners to formerly write down our thoughts about our learning.
This is a challenge, not a trial! Although at times it will feel like one. If I go into the coming 12 months with the expectation that I will hate it, I most probably will! Alternatively I can choose to see this experience as more than just a means to an end, but as an opportunity to learn new ways to improve my own skills as a teacher and to extend my learning and understanding of topics which I really enjoy in maths.
Life is full of challenges, it's how we choose to approach those challenges which determines our enjoyment, success and commitment.
Learn to face life's challenges with good expectations and excitement of what is in store. Never predetermine they will be unpleasant and a waste of time. Yes, I'm talking to myself as well!

Testing Faith!
How often do we say "God is testing my faith!". God will not test us! He will not tempt us! Tempting and testing come from Satan. God is incapable of hurting us, it is not in his nature!
Trials in life are not tests of faith! They help us to see that the faith we have is genuine. If our faith is not genuine, we will fall. If our faith in God is genuine, we will survive! Not because we have a strength of character, but because we have a God who holds us strong. We are kept safe in his hands, secure and loved.
When we come through tough times our hearts are full of praise for the love of our God who has held us safe.
So don't see trials as testing, but as a means to demonstrate to yourself that your love of God is genuine. Think of all the tough times David suffered during his life. So many Psalms begin with frustration and panic as he worries about how he will ever get out of whatever trial he is facing. Yet each psalm ends in praise as David acknowledges the awesome majesty of his Lord. His faith was never tested! His faith proved to him that his love of God was genuine and would always keep him safe.
Let the trials you face be an opportunity for you to be reminded that your love of God is genuine and not just superficial.

A Living Hope
Life seems to be full of comments which later appear to be contradicted.
As I return to 1 Peter this morning, I come across some amazing comments, all bunched together into one long sentance! I want to break it down into chunks to meditate on but I struggle to find the end of the sentance! Yet when I reach the end of the sentance and glance at the next one... I appear to find a contraction from Peter!
Verses 3 -5 speak of a living hope and God's shield of power keeping us safe until Christ's return, yet verse 6 speaks of the grief of many trials we will face!
If we are protected by God's power, why are we facing trials?
We visited relatives on Saturday. As young people they went to church and had a faith in God which held them fast. Sadly, Shirley's brother died. He was struck down by lightening! Along with her brother, Shirley's faith died. How could a God of love allow such a thing to happen? Especially when we are told that lightening (for insurance purposes) is an act of God!
It's often so hard to understand why God allows all the cruel things of this world to take place. I don't profess to know the answers. I try to live through my faith and accept that for me, my hope is in the future. Whatever I face here on earth will not change my future when Christ comes again. I have a living hope that sustains me. I can say these things, I haven't suffered the way so many have suffered. I really don't know how my faith would stand up if I lived in south USA at present or in the many countries where christians are being persecuted and killed for their faith.
In my faith, I will hold on to my living hope, that through the resurrection of Christ, my Lord, I will come into an inheritance that will never spoil or fade! My hope is not for an easy life on earth, but for an eternity to be spent worshipping God!
I cannot imagine how fantastic that will be. All I have is the knowledge that when I worship God, when I come before him in reverance and awe, there is no greater feeling, no greater time in my life. I am glad that I have Christ Jesus, who has sanctified my life, in order than I am able to enter God's presence for eternity to worship him.

Gideon and Peter
The first thing that hit me was those moaning and complaining Israelites! They were once again the victims of superior powers, constantly under attack, losing their land and their harvest and their livestock! They complained to God, "Why have you deserted us? Where are you when we need you?"
Yet they were unable to see the link between God's "desertion" and their own! They were no longer acting like God's people! They were once again worshipping Baal, building alters to other gods, yet expecting the one true God, whom they no longer worshipped, to rescue them when things turned bad.
I didn't study the story, just read it through. I then turned to the New Testament and skimmed through the end of James. Following James are the letters of Peter. Peter, the loud, out-spoken desciple is now writing as a mature man of God.
In 1Peter, Peter talks about living our lives in God's kingdom. 1 Peter 1 - 2 Peter 11 tells us about how we should be living. Not as worshippers of other gods in our busy world, not as citizens of this world, but as citizens of the kingdom of God, worshipping him and him alone.
You will need your brain in gear to understand this!
So this morning I got up early to read. One of those small voices, we need to learn to ignore, spoke to me challenging me as to the reason I was going to read it was out of guilt and not desire! Thankfully I was able to reason that God doesn't mind WHY we read his word as long as we obey him! Rather than not read because I feel guilty that I'm reading it because I've been neglecting it, I decided I would read it because God has told me to. I would rather be obedient to God than to not do something because I'm only doing it because I've been told to!

Healing Spirit
We talked about being a citizen of God's kingdom and humility. We prayed for two people who have been suffering long term migraines. I just stood by and prayed quietly in tongues for most of the time.
By the end of the meeting, my numb arm was feeling lots better, my own headache was fading. I fell into bed grateful for the sleep to come.
This morning I awoke to a pain free head and an arm which is not misbehaving! God heals our sickness even when we don't directly ask for healing. His Holy Spirit ministered to me during the time of prayer.
Being amongst God's family allows us to draw on the strength of others. The love and caring of this particular group of people always gives me strength and encouragement and no matter how tired I am, I always make the effort to meet with them. I am blessed with incredibly sensitive leaders. They are sensitive to the nudging of the Holy Spirit allowing them to be aware of when we need support. I know last night I received a quiet reassuring and encouraging word from one of them which lifted yet relaxed me allowing me to benefit from the sleep I needed. This particular person needed rest as much as I did, yet in her humility and love for others she offered me the words I needed to bless me.
I am so fortunate that God has placed me amongst such loyal citizens of heaven. People who lead through example.

On eagle's wings
Yet I not only do a worthwhile job, it's also the most satisfying I have ever done.
Seeing children learn, seeing them achieve makes my spirit soar!
I wonder if it's the same with God. He must have the biggest classroom ever and the Holy Spirit is the most patient teacher. How many times have I been taught the same lesson? How many times am I reprimanded for not following the class rules? How patient is my teacher?
Since Bible week I feel I'm getting to know the Holy Spirit in a totally different way. He's always been the slightly mysterious part of the trinity. I'm now finding I'm talking to him more easily, asking for his help and guidance, for wisdom and comfort.
I worship a God who loves me so much, he sent his son to die in payment for the many things I have done wrong and the many things I am yet to do wrong. But not only does my God forgive my sin, he has also sent a helper to work alongside me. Jesus was the greatest example of how to live life on earth. As Matthew Ling explained on Sunday (yes I made it to church!) Jesus lived on earth as a man not as God. He experienced all the emotions and pains that we experience. Yet through it all, he remained in control because each day he began by drawing on the strength of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus needed to power of the Holy Spirit in his daily life, then how much more do I need him?
At this present time I am physically and mentally tired. Yet I know that if I keep my mind fixed on God then I will have the strength to carry out his plan for my life.
For tonight though, I don't feel my mind is working and this is probably very waffly. So I will close for today and leave myself to ponder on the growing relationship I have with the Holy Spirit and also to accept my need to develop this relationship further if I am to achieve God's will for my life.

I am so angry!
I have a neighbour who likes to party! No often, but loudly! Last night we had to put up with her entertaining her friends until 2 in the morning, music blasting out, loud singing and lots of shouting. We resorted to sleeping on the sofas downstairs as the party was at the back of the house below our bedroom window.
She believes she has a right to party on a Saturday night, the noise is acceptable because it's a party!
In reality, we can complain to Environmental Health, but they canonly act if they hear the noise! Of course, they dont work at weekends or at night, so partying is a difficult issue. But the essence of the law these days is that it is unreasonable noise if it occurs after 10pm. Her daughters had a party 10 days ago on a Thursday night which went on until 4.20pm when we telephoned the police.
Again, we were unreasonable! For the next few days, people I haven't spoken to before, who live in our street, came up to talk about the noise from the party! We were not the only ones disturbed and I'm sure the same is true of last night.
I just want to sleep now! I've got to go to church, but I can't imagine how on earth I can praise God when I'm still so angry!

What a scary creature!
They sat quietly whilst I talked to them about the school's expectations.
They did everything they were asked to do, first time.
It was bliss after the form I had last year!
On the way down to assembly, I commented to another teacher about how well-behaved and quiet they were. She replied "well you are pretty scary Sue."
Later, whilst chatting to one of my form I discovered he knew plenty of boys already at the school. The names he mentioned are the ones we hear on a daily basis, which generally means for bad reasons! They'd been telling him about me! The comments?
She's scary! BUT she's a nice lady!
I'm chuffed! I guess if the kids think I'm scary but nice, then they must have some respect for me. I have a job to do, which is to not only educate these children to pass exams, but to also prepare them for life.
Rights and responsibilities are extremely important in lessons.
Every child has a right to an education. Every child has a right to expect their lessons to be well planned and well presented.
Every child must take responsibility for their own actions! Often children complain that it's the teacher's fault that they never learn. Occassionally it is! Sadly, in many cases, a poor learning environment is down to just a very small minority who believe it is their right to play up and have fun instead of allowing the others to gain their right to an education.
I may be scary, but generally the scariness goes when the group have accepted and learned their responsibilities in the classroom.
I love my job! I love seeing children suddenly grasp an idea and begin to understand something which has previously always been just out of their mind's reach.
Most of all, I love seeing troublesome children learn the skills required to achieve their potential without the need to constantly disrupt.
I am so glad God has placed me in such a fulfilling career!

Back to school
She's so nervous and insecure about what she's doing that she's coming up with lots of excuses not to go in. Even down to :My feet hurt!!! So we've put on elastoplasts and given them a kiss (not really!!!) and she's getting herself ready for her big day.
It's amazing how after a short time away from study, we can get so nervous about returning to it! I think of all the students we teach at school who are in the opposite boat and are nervous that they are out in the big world and have left the security of school life behind.
It seems that no matter what stage of our life we are in, change is always a scary thing! Insecurity can often ovewhelm us!
I'm glad I've got Jesus! He's there everyday. Before work yesterday I prayed for guidance and strength and also wisdom to know when I'd gone wrong! I spent most of the day getting wisdom! Oh boy what a day!
But I'm glad I had the Holy Spirit beside me all day! He held me and upheld me through all the things that confronted me and at no time, when I went wrong did he do anything other than nudge me into a realisation of my mistake.
Insecurity? No! Security! I'm held fast in loving arms!
Thank you Father!

Who am I?
I've never been very secure about who I am. Never really had any belief in myself or value of myself. Yet God has been telling me so much recently about himself, that the one thing I know about myself has suddenly given me self-belief.
Over the past few months I have been aware of God's awesomeness, his holiness and his love of all his creation. I know his love is so great that he sacrificed his Son for me that I can come into his presence. But that isn't the end of his love, he continues to show his love daily by the presence of his Holy Spirit within me.
Yet what does all this mean to me as a person?
It means I am a child of the living God! I have been made pure and holy in his presence (how else could I be allowed into his throne room?).
Catching a glimpse of God, of who he is, of all he has done, is changing my life. Oh, my circumstances are bad, there's lots I can stress about but as a child of the living God I can just reach out and ask for his help. I don't have to worry about anything.
This sounds so glib, but getting an understanding of who I am and where I stand in his kingdom is radically changing my outlook on life, my confidence and certainly my self-esteem.
Yesterday we heard about the citizenship of a disciple. As a citizen we have rights and also responsibilities. Sadly in the kingdom of earth people are concentrating on their rights! Few are taking any notice of their responsibilities. If we are to live in the kingdom we have a duty to stick to our responsibilities, THEN the kingdom will give us the security which is rightfully ours.
Yesterday focussed on humility as a the main duty of a citizen of heaven. As a child of the living God I have authority on earth to do God's will, but I am also a person under the authority of God. I must live my life in submission to God's will, to humbly go about my life doing God's will, seeking only his glory in everything I do.
Today is the start of a new term. Two days without the pupils to prepare for the work ahead. My desire for today is to do God's will. That in everything I do, people catch a glimpse of God. I want people to see Jesus in all I do. The whinging, the moaning, "it's not fair", attitude is not part of God's kingdom. Instead a willingness to do what God wants me to do humbly means that I joyfully get on with the tasks set before me. Reaching out to God for strength and wisdom in all aspects of my life, constantly keeping an attitude of praise to God and humbly submitting my life to him is the key to living in God's kingdom.
Knowing who I am in God means dutifully carrying out my responsibilities that I may access the rights of a citizen of his kingdom.
Good citizenship - rights and responsibilities!

I know too much!
But now's the time for the next step!
In James 1 v.22 we read
Colossians 3 v.23

James
The next morning I decided to try again, but again got no further than v18 before I gave up.
Last night I decided I would read JUST to verse 18 and THINK about it! Digest it!
The first thing that hit me was the fact that trials and temptations are not from God! (v 13) He is incapable of putting those things in our lives. What he does do is to allow those things to enter our lives. If we give in to them, we are allowing ourselves to sin. (v 14 - 15) Only good and perfect things come from God (v 17).
When we face trials, when life just seems to get too much for us. We have a choice! We can either allow it to swallow us up. We can sit in the depths of despair and cry and blame God. Or we can turn towards God, give him our worries, our fears, our problems! (v 5 -6)
One thing I've taken away from my time reading Psalm 119 is that we need to love God's law! We need to meditate on it and just praise God!
If through all our problems of today we just praise God, (not for the problems! but praise him for who he is) then we will be lifted up.
We are always in God's presence, but when we praise him, he gives us the strength and wisdom to go through our lives. He holds our hand and guides us.
So today I want to start the day by saying...
I love an amazing God! He is the creator of all I am, of all I see. I am just one small person, yet he loves me! I love an amazing, awesome God, because he first loved me! He doesn't hide himself from me but he has made himself known to me. The God of all creation, a pure and holy God! How awesome to think he wants ME in his presence!!
It's so unfair!
I went to visit a friend the other day and as soon as I sat down I began to cry! I didn't even know why. Thankfully she said that because I am a woman I'm allowed to cry, so she passed me the tissues. Odd how quickly the tears stopped!
We then sat and talked about what was bothering me and then I went on to say it's been a long time since I'd read any of Psalm 119 which we'd been studying individually so we could share when we met. (Does that make sense??)
The last thing I'd written was about 5 weeks earlier! from Psalm 119 v 103.

Who am I...
I awoke in the middle of the night and after a while logged onto the laptop. I was going to do a search on www.biblegateway.com for a phrase that was in my head, but my eyes glanced down the page and I spotted the "verse for today".
It was from Psalm 119 and reminded me that a friend and myself had been looking through Psalm 119 over the past couple of months. I wandered around the site for a while, but when I went back to the homepage the verse for the day had changed!
It doesn't matter. Jacqueline and I have come to realise that Psalm 119 can be summarised by saying that God's word is our life. It gives us all we need to live by, it brings us joy. We need to love God's word, to eat it greedily and to allow it to guide the way we live.
verse 175 states
Let me live that I may praise you,
and may your laws sustain me.
I was amazed that God drew me to this particular Psalm once again to show me the importance of getting his word into my life.
God cares for me! I'm struggling at the moment, but he places just the right word before me to guide me back!
Who am I that he cares so much? I'm his child!

Knowing What to Do
Over the past couple of days my parenthood has struggled to cope with knowing what to do for the best. My eldest children have left home (or have they?). Rob has returned a week before his 18th birthday. Things didn't work out in Southport so he's come back. Laura is struggling at work and is questioning the direction her life is taking. As a result, each morning I wake to find her sleeping in her younger brother's bed (he's at camp this week).
Other problems are surfacing at an alarming rate and I'm beginning to feel bogged down with life.
The annoying thing is I know what I need to do! I need to give God some quality time! I need to sit down and read his word, spend time seeking his face and giving him praise. Finally, I need to hand over everything that is worrying me.
So why do I struggle to do this?? Why is it so hard to hand parenting problems to God and ask his advice? My mind is telling me that they are my children and my responsibility. But I'm God's child, his responsibility and he loves me to come to him and ask for help.
At the moment, my children haven't asked for help. What they are doing is spending time in my home. Maybe not always talking about their worries and fears, I feel I'm having to drag those out of them. But they ARE in my house. They are close to me. They are desperate for my love, for my hugs, for my presence. They know that at any time, when they are ready, they can talk to me. They may not like what I say in reply to their problems, but they value my opinion.
I need to make sure that I do exactly the same as my children.
I need to go home, sit in my Father's house and gain strength from his presence. Talk about my worries, my fears and ultimately, just trust him, relax and regain my peace.

Heaven
The line that's caught me off guard says
"And I pray that when I get there I'll meet everyone I know."
Now at first hearing that sounds great! But then I thought-
Do I really want to meet EVERYONE I know???
I can think of a lot of people I have known and some I still know that I will be glad I won't see again!
God loves everyone and his desire is for all mankind to worship him and be in his presence! Surely, if Christ lives in me, I should want the same!
Challenging thought! I know I should love everyone.... but love them so much I want to spend eternity with them???

Home at Last!
During the worship I was thinking about how good it was to be back with God's people, worshipping him. Then I remembered I had spent half an hour meeting with God's people in Bath on the Sunday, and another student and I praised God's wonderful creation quietly during a session where we were told about the beauty of snowflakes.
The following week I met with over a thousand others at Bible week. Then last Sunday I worshipped with a small group local to Mum in Spain.
Although I have been away from my usual chruch for several weeks, my times of corporate worship have been varied, I have still met with God's people to worship him!
I've missed my bed! I've missed my husband, I've missed my kids and my home and decent cups of tea!
BUT
Although I have been in different places in the UK and in Spain, I have NEVER been out of God's presence. At any time I could just reach out and touch him. He has always been beside me, holding me and waiting for me to speak to him. His love and kindness has enveloped me throughout all my time away. My time away has never been a time away from Him! I have never missed being with an almighty, all powerful, every loving Father.
What a joy to know that wherever and whatever, God is always with us!

Time to go home
Ok, so it's the summer holidays still and I'm not exactly returning to work, but I've got a lot of study work to do and also quite a lot of pre-term work in school. Once again my job description is changing slightly and I've got a change of classroom, so I need to prepare thoroughly for the new term if I am to be of any use to the students I teach this coming year.
It's been a good break here in Spain and having seen the excellent progress my mum has made through her recent illness I feel content to return to England.
So back to normal life. Back to the highly missed hubby. Back to a decent cup of tea!!!!

Another quiet day
Later we went out for a typical lunch in a truckers restaurant. For 9euros you get salad and bread and crisps to munch whilst deciding what to eat, then you are given a choice of about 5 starters, followed by a choice of 5 main courses followed by a choice of 5 deserts! The price ALSO included wine, beer or soft drinks and coffee afterwards!
By the time you've munched your way through the meal you are only fit for a siesta! No need for an evening meal either! I guess if you were a truck driver (none there this week as the quarries are on holiday) the meal would keep you going for the afternoon!
Part of me would love to come out here and live. But I guess I only see the place when I'm on holiday and I don't have the stress of work. For now, I'm glad for the place God has placed me to live and work. We have good friends, good teaching, almost automatic access to water, heating, food, internet, phones etc. Here in Spain these things are not always to be assumed. Yes the cost of living is cheaper - at the moment! But fuel costs are rising! Food prices are rising! House prices are rising.
I'll stick with my home in England and wait until God tells me to go elsewhere. Only by allowing God to direct my life can I rest.

Holy Spirit
It's really changed how I deal with little things. If something crops up and I'm not sure what to say, I ask quickly tune in and then relax. I trust the Holy Spirit to help with what I need to say or do.

meeting with God's people
They are a good bunch of people and it was good to be with God's people worshipping an amazing God. Despite being amongst a small group of strangers, both Matt and I were able to just open our hearts and our mouths and worship as freely as we did at Bible Week where we worshipped amongst hundreds.
Often we feel restricted in our freedom to worship by those around us. But God wants us to bring glory to him in everything we do. This morning I'm sure our worship glorified God! I need to make sure everything else I do each day also glorifies the God who chose me and saved me!

Spannish Fiestas
Every village and town spends two weeks celebrating with fiestas. Huge parades, fancy dress, exciting floats, late night discos - starting at midnight! At the end of this, the town goes on holiday! Well the shops and bars shut for a month! So anything you want you need to hope the neighbouring village isnt in the middle of IT's holiday month! How odd!
But it's still a beautiful place! Last night we sat outside a bar and had a fantastic meal whilst watching the locals walk around the stalls down their main street. The atmosphere in Spain is far friendlier than in the UK. The village fiestas are for the locals and everyone gets involved.

warmer today
The whole way of life over here is so different to the UK. It's so hard not to feel guilty about sleeping during the day, but it's the only way if you are to enjoy the colour and noise and I have to add, the friendliness, of the fiestas!
Today we've had a relaxing day at home, but this evening we have yet ANOTHER night out celebrating a couple's ruby wedding. Another late night with lots of excellent food!
So far today we've relaxed by the pool for a couple of hours and although it is cloudy I can still feel the sun beating down and changing the colour of my skin.
I'm thanking God for the clouds! The day we arrived the heat was unbearable for me, but with the clouds I am coping with the heat - just!
Try not to envy me here in Spain! heehee

Hot and sultry
This is a beautiful country but I'm glad I live in England!
Wherever I am, I know I am with God. His Holy Spirit is with me to touch and guide me through each day.
I have two weeks to relax, study and spend precious time with mum and Matt. I thank God that he cares for my well-being!

Time to organise my thoughts
During the worship of the first meeting God told me I am a new creation! He has already dealt with all my issues, I just need to take hold of all he has for me. From then on God just worked wonderfully.
The main message I got from the week was that we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. If we keep looking at him we are able to block out all our worries. Seeing Jesus as Lord, in all his glory, how can we help but worship him by living pure lives?
There is so much more to say, but today I fly out to Spain to stay with my mum for 2 weeks. So yesterday and today have been and will be pretty hectic. Thankfully, technology has reached the mountainside where mum lives and I will be able to add my thoughts over the next few days whilst I avoid the heat of the day!

A WOW moment!
I had one today!
Wow moments are those rare and exciting times when suddenly the light bulb lights up in your head and you realise something you hadnt seen before.
Today's WOW was about pi. That odd little shape that we use to help us determine the circumference and area of a circle. I've finally found out where it comes from! It's the ratio of the circumference (the outside) of a circle to the diameter (the line that cuts the circle in half). I never knew that before!
So what? It's just such a magical number! It has never been finally solved, it can be expressed as a fraction 22/7 but even that's only an approximation. What amazes me about pi is that even with our great technology we cannot find the end to the decimal part of pi. We are just as accurate in our findings as the Egyptians and other ancient civilisations that used it all those thousands of years ago. How someone came across this fact about the relationship of the circumference and diameter I'll probably never know.
Some people use all these ancient facts to prove that God doesn't exist. In my mind I can only see more evidence of an amazing creator God. He likes order and system. He plans and he creates. His world is full of pattern and blending of colours and shapes. Studying Maths this week and the tremendous links between the many areas of maths is just one more pointer for me of God's creativity.
22/7? Why such odd numbers and why such an amazing link? A circle is always a circle, the circumference is always 22/7ths of the diameter.
Take time to look at God's world and see an amazing mind behind all the creation, the creation that includes me and you!

Technology is a wonderful thing!
It's been a mind-boggling morning but we've been given some tasks to do on the OU computers which I've done and now we're just chilling for a few minutes before lunch.
We're having a really good time seeing what and how others tackle problems and the whole group is working really well together. We've even been praised by the tutors for our team work and sensitivity to each other's abilities.
Anyway, it's lunchtime!! Soup and sandwiches.

It's been so long!
On my drive down here I stopped for a bite to eat and to read the booklet I was supposed to read before arriving... (Well I did read it before I arrived!). On the first page was a list of assumptions that are being made about education.
Education is more than information. Education can be considered in six inter-related levels.
- Information - basic facts and procedures
- Knowledge - a merging of experience and information that suggests a need for relevance, interest and context.
- Intelligence - this is cultivated when one interacts with knowledge by breaking it down and linking it together, and when one calls upon intuition.
- Understanding - both the head and the heart are needed as understanding focuses on both community and the individual.
- Wisdom - when understanding is complemented by ethics.
- The possibility of transformation or change, which is a key goal of education.
(Tobin Hart, 2001, From Information to Transformation: education for the evolution of consciousness)
I thought about some of the things Matthew had been saying the previous week about how we can know about Jesus but until we come to a revelation about WHO he is and meet him as a person, we can't actually KNOW JESUS.
Looking through the list I could see how our lives can change as our education about God and Jesus develops beyond just a the information, as knowledge merges experience, as intellect is cultivated by breaking down what we know and linking it with intuition (to me this makes me think of God's call on our lives - when he is speaking to us and we gain insight into his nature and persona), Understanding when the head and the heart work together to appreciate what is going on.
Wisdom! When understanding is COMPLEMENTED by ethics! Or in the case of christians, when understanding is complemented by the Word of God.
Finally, the possibility(?) of change! How can we not change the way we live when we have allowed these different facets of education to determine how we see and interact with God?
If we read the Bible, are we being educated by it? Or are we just reading it as a good read? Are we ultimately allowing it to change our way of life?
I have to dash off, no time to speeel checkm or proff read! ( ;-) ). Another 7 hours of learning about maths education for me! Brain addled person signing off!

The end has come
This last year has gone so quickly and I really feel I've achieved much in some areas of my work, in others there is a LOT that still needs improving on and a lot more that just needs to be learnt for the first time.
Life is full of learning. We can never know everything. Even if we have been in our job for 30 years, with all the changes the world is bringing, there are always new things to learn!
My new laptop? Well, I'm good on a pc! The new laptop has XP, so many new things to learn. New courses to teach next year, which means I have to learn the new skills to pass them on next year!
New words from God? ALWAYS!! I'm still amazed at how often we can read a verse and suddenly after many years it takes on new meaning according to how God is dealing with our lives at the present times.
His words are a lamp to our feet, to guide us through all the dealings of the day.
In The Message it states

New Toy!
Anyway, lots to learn!!! All these new games and programs for school!!
IT's hot!
I'd just finished writing today's blog when the pc crashed!!
Oh well... It may be the heat. The school was running it's final dress rehearsal for Grease yesterday and the mikes gave out! The heat in the hall was so oppressive!
On Friday we have Sports Day. We don't want rain... but then, I reckon this heat would be unbearable and a health risk to some of our kids (and staff!).
We are such a grumbling nation about the weather! We should enjoy the variety and learn to live with all it's variations.
Please can we have air-conditioning in schools???? ( ooh and decent heating for the winter!)

I've got a confession to make!
I've been wallowing in the intensity of my life the past few days and allowing myself to be overcome by it all. As a result, instead of getting something done, I'm getting NOTHING done!
In fact, it gets worse! Because I'm getting nothing done.. I've less time to get done all those things I need to do!
This morning I went to church and wished I hadnt bothered. I just cried for the first part of the worship until God reminded me that he's been telling me that all he wants is my worship. So I prayed for peace in my heart and slowly stood up to sing. The song we sang touched my heart and became a positive confession. I wanted to go to the front and just speak out the words so that others would hear the words of my confession.
My shield, my portion, deliverer
My shelter, strong tower
My very present help in time of need.

Be controversial!!
Just go ahead! Be anonymous if you wish, but let's get some conversation going and challenge the cobwebs in our minds!
A few years back I was studying an Open University course about Small Talk. The course was called Object Orientated Programming. I hadn't a clue what it was about and in the forums people kept talking about OOP. I thought they were discussing their mistakes...
One day I sent in a posting asking what OOP was! Imagine my embarassment when it was pointed out that OOP was the abbreviation for the type of programming I was learning!! I was SO glad there were miles of land and Internet connections between myself and my fellow students!
A week later I received an email from a fellow student thanking me for asking the question. He too was new to programming and was getting bogged down by the technical jargon. Like me, he had found it impossible to see the obvious.
I learned a big lesson during that course... never be afraid to ask a question. There are probably others out there wondering exactly the same and not having the courage to ask.
So if you feel you want to pass a comment, disagree, agree, encourage or rebuke, please feel free. I'm open to constructive criticism as I know I have a lot to learn.
Let's join together to discuss this life God has so richly blessed us with!
Breakfast at Tiffany's?
Our cell group leaders moved into a bigger house in the winter and we've been hinting about how good it would be to spend some time on their decking in the sunshine!
Today we met as a family of cell members for breakfast. The food was great. The sun was oh so warm!!! The conversation was relaxed! What a wonderful way to start the weekend, with friends and food!

Tired - I need eagles wings
Today I'm struggling to keep going and I wish I'd stayed in bed. My free periods have been taken with covering an unsettled year 7 group TWICE!!! Not sure who feels most hard done to!
I need a quiet 5 minutes to sit and draw on God's strength, but it's hard to find when I'm surrounded by 24 chatty children aged 11 - 12.

Big School
Inducation isnt so much a trial period as a sample of things to come. Today my job changes too - just for the day - my job is to spend a WHOLE day with one group of students! The opposite of what they will be experiencing from September! I've never really spent a whole day with one class, but it gives me an opprtunity to get to know my new form.
Today can be seen as either a scary experience or an opportunity to experience new things.
I'm looking forward to the new challenge.

Church in the Park
Tomorrow I'll have a lobster arm!!! I sat with my left side to the sun and am now feeling very warm along my left arm! When we left home, the sun didn't seem that strong, and the forecast wasn't that great. We went unprepared.
How often do we go about our lives unprepared for what may happen?
Now I know that we can't be prepared for every eventuality, but there are some things we can easily prepare for. In the UK, that means that if there's an event in the park, an umbrella would be advisable if the forecast says sun, and sun cream if the forecast says rain. Today I was only prepared for a warm day, no waterproof, or umbrella, no sun cream.
Nevermind.. we all had a fantastic day, great company, great fun and a barbecue afterwards at a friend's house.
Church was different today!

Creation Day
In my usual style, I've left everything late. So this weekend I need to sew and sew. I have other things I need to do too, but this weekend it's sewing that must take priority.
I know the costumes will be good, but I'm putting a lot of stress on the drama teacher with my laise faire attitude (as my mum calls it). Apart from a negative attitude as a failing, my other greatest failing is leaving things to the last minute. I know I'll get the job done, and generally to a good standard (if it's one of my skills) but am I being fair to others?

Coffee and Cake
Mmmm white chocolate and strawberry muffins!!!
We chatted about what we'd learned and life in general for 1 1/2 hours! I was surprised when the announcement came over the tannoy that it was 9.30!
So after 64 verses of Psalm 119, what have we learned?
The psalmist loves God's word. He longs for it day and night, delights in God's laws. Knowing God brings him security, preserves his days, brings joy, peace and blessings.
